(Sobre la naturaleza humana)

Solo en un mundo de ciegos, serán las cosas lo que realmente son. Based on José Saramago’s Blindness, this interdisciplinary stage work explores the collapse of society through a sudden epidemic of white blindness. Through movement and dramatic action, the piece reflects on the degradation of human nature and the primal instincts revealed in the struggle for survival.

The performance immerses dancers and audience in a transforming scenographic environment, where vision is partially obstructed to create new dynamics between bodies and space. As the stage evolves, it becomes a landscape of tension, danger, and ultimately liberation, urging reflections on the cost of survival, solidarity, and the transformative power of love. The piece builds on the metaphor of blindness, reflecting the ignorance that pervades humanity. It paints a stark and poignant image of our time, challenging the audience to confront the harsh realities of the world around them, particularly the pressing issues affecting society. The work invites a deep reflection on the true cost of survival at any cost, while poetically suggesting a return to solidarity, teamwork, and the transformative power of love and compassion.

In a world where sight is lost, it is only by embracing our raw, vulnerable humanity that we can find true clarity.

Based on the book Blindness by José Saramago, the piece is conceptualized and directed by Vivian Medina, with choreography by Medina and Sarah Storer. Ana Maria Benavides assists with choreography, and Olga Leon provides direction assistance. The dancers include Ana Maria Benavides, Anibal Quiceno, Andrea Maria Hernandez, Diana Salamanca, Esteban Cordoba, Fabian Franco, Felipe Valenzuela, Carolina Avellaneda, Lady Angelica Tatiana Roa, Angelica Acuña, and Javier Blanco. The production is led by Sebastián Aldana, with the voice of Rosario Jaramillo, art direction by Juan Aldana, and light design by Arno Truschinski. Costume design is by Rafael Arevalo, and the music features compositions by Camilo Giraldo and Plastikman (for one scene). Scenography construction is by Nicolás Duque, with contemporary dance training by Sarah Storer, Carlos Latorre, and Vivian Medina, and ballet training by Jairo Lastre, Pilar Hernandez, and Isabel. Photography is by Carlos Mario Lema, and video work is by Leonardo Carreño.
